The country’s television giant ABS-CBN is filing $8 million legal suit against online streaming site, KissAsian.
ABS-CBN Corporation on Friday, February 17, filed a lawsuit before the US Federal District Court against KissAsian, an online streaming site, for damages of over $8 million for copyright infringement of 27 television shows and movies.
KissAsian, provide on-demand streaming of full-length versions of television shows and movies through their website.
The video-streaming website has been popular to users for offering full length replays of television series, especially South Korean, Taiwanese, Chinese and Southasian dramas which include Filipino telenovelas.
Netizens, especially the website’s avid viewers, react on this move of ABS-CBN. Some feared that KissAsian might shutdown due to the legal suit.
Others urge the TV station to improve its own online streaming facility, iWantTV. The latter offers Kapamilya shows and movies which can either be streamed for free (for the latest 3 episodes) or for a charge using an ABS-CBN mobile subsription.
As of posting, ABS-CBN’s series like Forevermore, On the Wings of Love, ‘Till I Met You, among others, have been taken down from the site.
ABS-CBN have previously sued other online streaming sites for online piracy.
