The city of Cagayan de Oro has been placed “Red Alert” after the Philippine National Police (PNP) Region 10 received reports of its inclusion as targets of the Maute terrorist group’s plans of bombing.

The reports are still unverified by the PNP.  However, CDO City Police Office spokesperson C/Inspector Mardy Hortillosa II said that such kind of terror threats should not be just ignored.

The Butig-based terrorist group claimed responsibility to the fatal attacks at a night market in Davao City, despite of its being known with tight security.  At least 14 were killed and 60 more injured during the Davao deadly blast in September last year.  Members of the Maute group tagged in the bombing were arrested in October.

The reports also said that th Ozamis City of Misamis Occidental is also one of the targets of the local terrorist group’s plans of attacks.  Cagayan de Oro and Ozamis are among the cities (along with Iligan City and Marawi City) in proximity with Butig, Lanao del Sur where the Maute group was founded.

In an interview with Bombo Radyo, PNP regional spokesperson Sup. Lemuel Gonda is alerting all of the police stations especially those that are near in Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur commanding them to strictly provide security among vital installations and to establish road checkpoints.
