The militant transport group Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (Piston) and other transport organizations will stage another transport strike which will be done nationwide.
Commuters are urged to seek alternative means of transportation on Monday to avoid inconvenience. A similar transport strike staged earlier in February caused hundreds of passengers to be stranded, and prompted some schools to cancel classes.
The tigil-pasada or transport strike on February 27, 2017 will be a protest to the government’s plan of jeepney modernization and phase-out of public utility vehicles, 15 years and older. The areas affected will be the following areas:
- Cagayan Valley
- Metro Baguio
- Metro Manila
- Camarines Sur
- Negros Occidental
- Negros Oriental
- Cagayan de Oro and parts of Northern Mindanao
- General Santos
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will provide free rides for commuters in Metro Manila who will be affected by the transport strike.
In Iloilo City, the city government have put several dump trucks on standby to load commuters on Monday. Libre sakay will also be implemented by other local government units affected by the protest.
