The Department of Education will be needing hundreds of thousands teachers from 2017 until 2020 according to a report in local program Bandila.
The education department said the hiring of new teachers will address the increasing number of students enrolling until senior high school of the government’s K to 12 program.
According to DepEd, they will be hiring 181,980 teachers for school year 2017-2018 alone. Out of this, 21,236 teachers will be assigned to Grades 11 and 12 in public schools, while the other 18,236 will be hired for kindergarten to Grade 10.
Currently, the DepEd employs the ranking system, where qualified candidates are ranked according to the DepEd’s criteria for evaluation and selection process.
The present salary of Teacher 1 may reach over Php 24000 (plus benefits). To encourage more licensed professional teachers to join the education workforce, lawmakers are pushing for a salary grade increase from SG11 to SG20. If approved, a Teacher 1 item may get as much as Php 36,000 basic.
