A magnitude 5.4 earthquake shook Batangas and nearby provinces in Luzon on Tuesday night, April 4, bringing several aftershocks and damages to establishments including schools.

This prompted the local government unit of Laguna to suspend classes on all levels in both private and public schools on April 5 to check possible damages to school buildings.
