Magnitude 6 earthquake rocks Davao City, Cagayan de Oro and nearby provinces

A magnitude 6 earthquake hits Wao, Lanao del Sur sending tremors to Davao City, Cagayan de Oro and other parts of North-Central Mindanao.

A strong earthquake shook North-Central Mindanao on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 5:21 in the morning.

Magnitude 6 earthquake struck Central Mindanao, with epicenter was at Wao, Lanao del Sur.

The tremor’s epicenter is in Wao in Lanao del Sur at a depth of 1 kilometer, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

Intensity IV was felt in Davao City, Cagayan de Oro City, Cotabato City, Gingoog City, and other parts of Misamis Oriental.

Phivolcs’ initial measurement of the earthquake was magnitude 5.5 with epicenter reported at Kalilangan Bukidnon before raising it to magnitude 6.0.

The state seismologists said that damages and aftershocks are expected following this tectonic movement.
