A bomb blast shook the peaceful Iligan City public plaza, early Wednesday evening, December 7, 2016. Local police says a grenade was thrown in front of the city public plaza, leaving four (4) wounded. The report said the assailant was on a motorcycle. He wore a bonnet, a black shirt, and white shoes. The explosion was only few meters away from the Iligan City Police Headquarters.
Three (3) female and One (1) male were injured during the explosion and were immediately brought to the nearby Dr. Uy Hospital, sustaining minor injuries. The victims were named Christine Mercaderos, Cheryl Paquit Kaugmaran, Shiela Mae Maagad, and a certain Laurito Carabantos from Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur.
No fatality was reported during the explosion.
Authorities were seeing the possibilities of the explosion being a diversionary tactics of the terrorist group or the Maute group from the ongoing offensive operations by the Armed Forces in Butig, Lanao del Sur. The Maute Group was also linked to the recent deadly Davao bombing.
