The Malacañang Palace on Wednesday, has declared December 26, 2016 (Monday) and January 2, 2017 (Monday) as special non-working holidays.
Acting Executive Secretary, Menardo Guevarra, has signed Proclamation No. 117, declaring both dates as special non-working holidays throughout the country to give the people full opportunity to celebrate the holidays with their families and loved ones.

Further, the proclamation added that a longer weekend promotes domestic tourism and enables employers to plan their work schedules effectively and efficiently, thus improving their productivity.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has been directed to issue the appropriate circular to implement this Proclamation for the private sector.
