President Rodrigo Duterte revealed in his speech that Kris Aquino asked him not to go after her brother, former President Noynoy Aquino, in a text.
“Huwag mo namang ipakulong si Noynoy,” the alleged text said to which the president replied, “No Kris. I am not out to find faults. I just want to know the truth.”
The text was apparently in connection to the ongoing investigation on failed Mamasapano mission more than two years ago that led to the deaths of fourty-four (44) commandos from the Special Action Forces of the Philippine National Police.
The former president was indicted in the Mamasapano incident, along with former PNP Chief Alan Purisima and former PNP Special Action Force (SAF) director Getulio Napeñas Jr.
In the same speech, Duterte said he will no longer going to push through with the creation of a commision that will investigate the Mamasapano incident.
The President said he would instead wait for the Office of the Ombudsman to finish its investigation.
“I do not want to have a multiple incongruity especially if one finding fights with the other. So hintayin ko nalang,” Duterte said in his speech.
During the Mamasapano anniversary, Duterte promised to give the fallen SAF 44 and their families the justice they seek for. He blamed the past administration for the botched operation and said his plans to reopen the investigation.
