President Rodrigo Duterte “approved, with conditions” the proposed special card for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), which will make it easier for them to avail of government servicesm during the Cabinet meeting held last Tuesday, February 7.
The new program, which will be called “iDOLE-OFW Identification Card System” has been approved with conditions because of certain technicalities according to Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella.
The unique ID card for OFWs will have the following features and special privileges to the OFW’s when availing of government services:
- Easier transactions with the government and private agencies
- Access to OFWs’ records with government agencies
- Serves as a debit card for the OFW bank
- Serves as a reloadable Beep card that can be used for MRT or LRT rides
The implementation of the new system has not been announced yet.
The ID system is one of the steps of Duterte’s administration plans to streamline government process.
Earlier, the Department of Labor and Employment has created a one-stop service center for OFWs (OSSCO). Fifteen locations for the OSSCO have been created nationwide.
