Muslims around the world will celebrate Amon Jadid (Amun Jadeed) or Islamic New Year on Muharram 1, 1439 Hijrah Calendar, which falls on September 21, 2017 (Thursday).
In the Philippines, Amon Jadid is declared as a special non-working holiday in some parts of the Philippines by virtue of Article 169 of Presidential Decree No. 1083 (code of Muslim Personal Laws in the Philippines) dated February 4, 1977.
The Amon Jadid holiday will be officially observed in the Provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and in the Cities of Cotabato, Iligan, Marawi, Pagadian, and Zamboanga.
All Muslim government officials and employees in the places other than those enumerated shall also be excused from reporting to the office in order that they may observe the said Muslim holiday.
