Pursuant to Presidential Decree (PD) No. 1083, otherwise known as Code of Muslim Personal Laws in the Philippines, April 13, 2018, Friday, has been declared as a Muslim Legal Holiday in parts of Mindanao. It is in observance of the “Lailatul Izra Wal Miraj” or the Nocturnal Journey and Ascension of Prophet Mohammad S.A.W.
The legal holiday shall be officially observed in the Provinces of Basilan, Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga del Sur, and in the cities of Corabato, Iligan, Marawi, Pagadian, and Zamboanga, and in such other Muslim Provinces and cities as may hereafter created.
According to the law, ALL Muslim officials and employees in places other than the ones mentioned above shall also be excused from reporting to office in order to allow them to observe this one of the Islamic holidays.
Isra and Mi’raj, also known as Al Isra’ wal Miraj, is observed on the 27th day of the month of Rajab, the seventh month in the Islamic calendar. This event marks the night that Allah took Mohammad (S.A.W.) on a journey from Mecca to Jerusalem and then to heaven.
