Boracay is one of the top tourist destinations in the Philippines.  Because of its white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, it has been listed by renowned travel magazines as one of the world’s best islands.

In 2012, international travel magazine Travel + Leisure awarded Boracay as the “Best Island in the World.” Two years after in 2014, the resort island was named at the top of the list of “Best Islands in the World” published by acclaimed international travel magazine, Condé Nast Traveler. Further, the magazine also included the island in its list of “Top 10 Destinations to Watch”.

However, due to the influx of tourists, exploitation of its resources could not be avoided, resulting to the worsening environmental conditions in the island, which have prompted the government to act immediately.

In February 2018, President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to initiate full closure of the island for six (6) months effective April 26, 2018 to give way for its rehabilitation.

Amid the nearing closure of the island, tourists have sought for other destinations that will also offer attractions similar to the island.

We have compiled a list of destinations that could be Boracay-alternatives.
