Will GMA network also venture on Thai dramas?
Aside from the anticipated Koreanovelas “While You Were Sleeping”, “Whisper” and “Ruler of the Mask”, the Kapuso network will also air a Filipino-dubbed Thai lakorn (drama) titled ‘You are My Destiny’ this 2018. Should this push through, the series will be the first Thai drama to air on Philippine TV.
“You are My Destiny” is the Thai remake of the Taiwanese drama “Fated to Love You”. It stars two of Thailand’s in-demand actors, Wisetkaew “Bie” Sukrit and Esther Supreeleela. The lakorn is set to air on January 4, 2018.
Although this will be the first lakorn to land on Philippine TV, Filipinos are not new to Thai stories.
In 2010, the Mario Maurer starrer “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” was a massive hit in the Philippines, which paved a way for Maurer to land several endorsement deals here in the country.
Just recently, the global hit 2017 Thai film “Bad Genius” raked box office success in the country.
Pinoy Soaps Aired on Thai TV
Meanwhile, few of the Kapuso dramas are also being aired in Thailand following a contact deal between GMA and Thai company JKN Global Media. The latter acquired over 1,000 hours of GMA dramas through GMA Worldwide, including “Ang Dalawang Mrs. Real” (retitled “The Other Mrs. Real”), “My Faithful Husband” and “Beautiful Strangers.”
Other GMA series are also set to air on Thai TV.
