The Department of Education (DepEd) has recently released Department Order (DO) No. 25 S 2018 which states the DepEd School Calendar SY 2018-2019, it’s implementing guidelines, as well as the school breaks and regular holidays for this academic year. One of the enclosures of the DO is the DepEd School Holidays and Breaks SY 2018-2019.
The first holiday celebration in the upcoming school year will be the commemoration of the 120th Philippine Independence Day or Araw ng Kalayaan on January 12, 2018, Tuesday. It is a regular holiday in the country.
On June 15, Friday, Muslims around the world will end their monthlong obligatory fasting with a feast called “Eid’l Fitr”. Under Presidential Decree No. 291 in “Recognizing Muslim Holidays and Providing for Implementation signed by former President Ferdinand Marcos, Eid’l Fitr is among the declared Muslim holidays in the Philippines. Although the celebration of the end of Ramadan is determined through moon-sighting, DepEd has already included 15th of June as a holiday in its school calendar.
On August 21st, Tuesday, the Philippines will celebrate Ninoy Aquino Day. On August 22nd, DepEd marked is as “Eid’l Adha”, also known as the “Feast of Sacrifice”, one of the holiest celebration of Muslims around the world. In the Philippines is among the recognized Muslim holidays under PD No. 291.
The following week, a long weekend awaits as the country celebrates National Heroes Day on August 27. It is a regular holiday.
Semestral Break 2018 starts on October 22 until 28. Resumption of classes will be on October 29, 2018.
November 1, Thursday, is All Saints’ Day, which is a regular holiday; while November 2, Friday, is All Souls’ Day, which is a special non-working holiday. This means that a four-day long weekend break. Another long weekend is expected a week after that because of the celebration of Bonifacio Day on the 30th of November.
Christmas Break 2018 commences on December 22, 2018 and resumption of classes is set on January 2, 2019. In previous years, however, January 2 was always declared as additional special non-working holiday following the New Year’s celebration.
February 5, 2019, Tuesday, is a regular holiday in celebration of the Chines Lunar New Year’s Day.
