The Department of Education (DepEd) released Department Order (DO) No. 25, S. 2018 stating the DepEd School Calendar SY 2018-2019.
According to the order, the school year starts on June 4, 2018 and ends on April 5, 2019. It shall consist of 208 school days inclusive of the five-day In-Service Training and the three days for the Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTC) conducted within the school year.
Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said that the department is expecting around 29-million learners from both public and private, elementary and secondary schools nationwide as the school year opens. Added to that are the 1.5 million SHS (Senior High School) students enrolled this school year.
Enclosed in the DO are “The Implementing Guidelines on the SY 2018-2019 Calendar of Activities”. This will enable the schools to effectively and efficiently implement the school events and activities. Likewise, the guidelines shall allow the ROs and the schools division offices to provide support to schools, particularly in the areas of instruction, and progress monitoring and evaluation.
Also stated in the DepEd school calendar are the national and local celebrations or activities and holidays.
DepEd emphasized that make-up classes are recommended in lieu of class cancellations due to celebrations and holidays, as well as natural and man-made calamities such as typhoons.DO No. 25, s. 2018
