June 2, 2018, Manila – A teen from Cebu wins the latest season of “Tawag ng Tanghalan”.
Janine Berdin emerged as the grand winner of It’s Showtime’s “Tawag ng Tanghalan” during the season finale on Saturday, June 2. She sang the 1989 hit OPM song “Nosi Ba Lasi” to secure her spot in the top three.
The 16-year-old performed a medley of Bamboo’s hits namely “Tatsulok”, “Hallelujah”, and “Noypi” in her Final 3 performance and earned a standing ovation from the judges and audience. Her name also became a top trending topic on Twitter in the Philippines after her much-praised performance.
The Cebuana teen won P2 million, in addition to securing a management contract and a house and lot during the singing contest’s grand finals at the Aliw Theater in Pasay City.
She competed alongside Ato Arman and Steven Paysu in the top 3. Berdin earned the highest number of combined judges’ scores and text votes (96.11 percent), defeating Ato Arman (74.27 percent) and Steven Paysu (61.80 percent) who finished second and third, respectively.
Second Chance
Janine’s victory is not without the bumpy beginnings. She audition at “The Voice Kids Philippines” but failed to make it in the competition. Last year, she also tried to audition for first season of Tawag ng Tanghalan but also met with no luck.
But as the saying goes, opportunities multiply as they are seized. She re-audition during the 2nd Season in January and successfully won the daily rounds. She entered into the semifinals rounds after successfully defending her golden microphone for five consecutive times.
