Manila – The low pressure area (LPA) spotted east of Mindanao has developed into a tropical depression, says PAGASA.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the low pressure area (LPA) brewing east of Mindanao has developed into a tropical depression. The weather disturbance was named “Domeng” as it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
In its daily weather forecast released at 4pm of June 5, 2018, PAGASA said that the center of Tropical Depression (TD) DOMENG was estimated at 690 km East of Guiuan, Eastern Samar (9.8 ºN, 131.9 ºE). It carries a maximum sustained winds of 45 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 60 km per hour. TD Domeng is forecast to move North Northwest at 14 km per hour.
Tropical Depression Domeng has an estimated rainfall amount of moderate to heavy within its 300 km diameter.is not expected to make landfall in the country says PAGASA. However, Domeng may still bring trigger strong southwesterly windflow, which will bring occasional moderate to heavy rains over the western sections of Luzon and Visayas this weekend.
No tropical cyclone warning signal has been released but the public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions. Flash floods and landslides are possible.
Meanwhile, the state weather bureau is also watching another LPA brewing at 1,030 km East of Virac, Catanduanes. It is embedded in the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
