Despite the slip in its ranking, the University of the Philippines remains the top university in the country in the latest 2019 QS World University Ranking.
The State University’s flagship campus in Diliman, Quezon City ranked 384th this year with an overall score of 28.8, down from 367th last year with a 32.9 overall score in the latest world university ranking by the UK-based group Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The university ranks 75th in Asia this year, a five-point lower than its rank last year (#70).
According to the website, UP Diliman (UPD), the flagship university of the UP System, is “not only the home of diverse colleges, offering 94 graduate and undergraduate courses, it also runs several centers of research, many of which have been declared by the Commission on Higher Education as National Centers of Excellence.”
Moreover, the state-owned university also affirmed its own commitment to modernizing its facilities and services as many libraries have already been computerized.
Among the programs that the university is known for are engineering education, interdisciplinary programs such as Material Science, Technology Management and Archaeological Studies and International Studies.
Meanwhile, three other reputable universities in the country, namely Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), De La Salle University (DLSU ), and University of Santo Tomas (UST) also made it to the top 1,000 universities list.
Except for UST, which has retained its spot, the two other universities also dipped in its ranking. ADMU placed at the 651-700 ranking, down from 551-600 last year; while DLSU was down to 801-1000 from its ranking of 701-750 in 2017.
The QS World University Ranking is based on the following criteria: academic reputation, employer reputations, faculty-student relationship, citations per faculty, international faculty, and international student ratio.

Ateneo de Manila University:

- Employer Reputation: 34.9
- Faculty Student: 31.9
De La Salle University:
- Employer Reputation: 31.4
University of Santo Tomas:
- Employer Reputation: 23.5
