Manila, Philippines – An LPA west-nortwest of Batanes has developed into Tropical Depression, according to PAGASA.
The Low Pressure Area (LPA) brewing west-northwest of Batanes (but located outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility [PAR]) has developed into a Tropical Depression. Once it enters PAR, it will be named Ester.
Public storm signal no. 1 was hoisted in Batanes.
According to the state weather bureau’s bulletin at 5:00 PM, the severe weather disturbance is expected to enter PAR tonight or tomorrow.
Occasional rains with gusty winds will prevail over Batanes due to the approaching cyclone.
Some parts of Luzon will still experience rains brought about by the Habagat-enhanced tropical depression. Moderate to occasionally heavy rains will be observed over Ilocos Region, Cordillera, Zambales, and Bataan, and light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Metro Manila, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Cavite, and Batangas until the weekend.
The Tropical Depression is expected to make landfall over Southern Taiwan between tonight and tomorrow morning.
As of 3:00 pm today, the center of Tropical Depression was at 320 km West Northwest of Basco, Batanes with maximum winds of 55 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 65 km/h. It is moving East Northeast at 15 km/h.
Meanwhile, another LPA was spotted at 510 km East Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
