Sarangani, Philippines – Magnitude 5.8 quake strikes off Sarangani, in the town of Malungon, on Tuesday, July 3.
The earthquake was felt early Tuesday evening, at around 6:00 PM, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). The epicenter was located at 10 km northeast of Malungon, Sarangani. It is of tectonic origin with depth of 103 km. Intensity IV was felt in Mati City and Davao City.
In precautionary response, students of the Ateneo de Davao University gather at the school grounds after the magnitude 5.8 earthquake was felt in Davao City.

Phivolcs downgraded quake magnitude 5.6
In its second earthquake bulletin, Phivolcs has downgraded the quake magnitude to 5.6. Instrumental Intensity V was recorded in General Santos City and Alabel, Sarangani.
The state seismologists said that damages are not expected following the temblor, however, aftershocks may happen.
Earlier today, an earthquake of almost similar magnitude rocked Batangas, parts of Metro Manila and nearby Luzon provinces.
