Manila, Philippines – The Malacañang Palace suspends government work and public school classes in Metro Manila on Tuesday, July 17 due to continuous heavy downpour brought about by Hanging Habagat enhanced by Tropical Depression Henry. Massive flooding was observed, especially in low-lying areas.
In a Circular signed by Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea, the Palace said that the work and class suspension was upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
However, those offices and agencies whose functions involve delivery of health and basic services, preparedness and response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital shall continue with their operations and render the necessary services.
Memorandum Circular No. 47 adds that suspension of work in private schools and companies shall be upon the discretion of their respective heads.
