Pasig City, Philippines – The Department of Education changes school calendar in concordance with Proclamation No. 556.
President Rodrigo Duterte signed the proclamation on Wednesday declaring August 21, 2018 as a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Adha or Feast of Sacrifice. The declaration debunks previous news articles that Eid’l Adha is on August 22.
News sites referred to the earlier released School Calendar for SY 2018-2019, which state that August 22 is a regular holiday for Eid’l Adha celebrations.
So, this leaves netizens confused if August 22 remains a holiday in DepEd.
To address the queries of netizens if August 22 is still a holiday despite the proclamation from Malacañang Palace, the education department amends the school calendar.
DepEd says that regular classes will be conducted on August 22.
The Eid’l Adha dates varies yearly because the Islamic (Hijrah) Calendar is lunar-based.
