Manila, Philippines – The Pinoy adaptation of the 2014 South Korean film, “Miss Granny,” earned Php 7.8 million on its first day in theaters.
Miss Granny is headlined by Sarah Geronimo, James Reid and Xian Lim. It is produced by Viva Films under the direction of Bb. Joyce Bernal.
The movie revolves around Fely (played by Ms. Nova Villa), a woman in her 70’s who magically finds herself in the body of her 20-year-old self, Audrey (played by Geronimo) after having her picture taken at a mysterious photo studio. Reid plays as Fely’s grandson, who invited Audrey to be the vocalist of his heavy metal band. Lim, on the other hand, is a music producer who want to bring their band to the spotlight.
The Philippine adaptation incorporates Filipino culture and values, and also focuses on family ties. It highlights a selfless love of a mother who is willing to sacrifice to protect her family.
With an opening gross of more than 7 million pesos, the movie is in the running to be a blockbuster hit. “Miss Granny” is showing in more than 200 cinemas nationwide.
