Manila, Philippines – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, declares September 13, 2018, Thursday as a special non-working holiday in the Cordillera Administative Region (CAR).
Proclamation No. 575, signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Midealdea on September 10, declares September 13, 2018 as a special non-working holiday in commemoration of the 1986 “Sipat” Peace Talks. This will give people in the CAR to participate fully in the occasion and the scheduled activities or events.
The 1986 “Sipat” Peace Talks, also known as the Mt. Data Peace Accord is the first peace agreement signed in the history of the peace process. In 1986, the CPLA, led by Fr. Conrado Balweg, heeded the call for peace by the late President Corazon C. Aquino through the forging of a sipat (peace agreement) at the Mt. Data Hotel in Mt. Data Hotel in Bauko, Mountain Province.
Celebration of the event include gathering of elders and leaders of the Cordillera Bodong Administration-Cordillera People’s Liberation Army (CBA-CPLA) and government officials in the northern region.
