Cagayan, Philippines – The provincial government of Cagayan announced class and work suspensions on certain dates due to Typhoon Mangkhut or Ompong.
Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba has ordered that classes in all levels on September 13 & 14 (Thursday and Friday) for both private and public schools are suspended due to the anticipated onslaught of Typhoon Mangkhut. Work both in public and private sectors on September 14 are likewise suspended.
The eye of Typhoon Mangkhut was last spotted, based on all available data, at 1,190 km East Northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, still outside Philippine area of responsibility (PAR). It is predicted to enter PAR afternoon. Mangkhut, with local name “Ompong,” is expected to make a landfall in Cagayan-Batanes area on September 15.
Government agencies tasked for disaster risk reduction are put on red alert in preparation for the possible major destruction from the tropical cyclone.
